FROM THE PARK
IMAGES FROM THE PATTERSON PARK AREA
USING INFRARED AND ORTHO FILMS

I used two "non-traditional" large format (4x5) films for this series. The infrared film captures a spectrum of light that is invisible to the human eye. The infrared film shows blue skies as black and green foliage as white. A red filter is used.
The ortho film has a different approach with it's white skies and contrasting foliage. Ortho film sees no red and renders a blank image if a red filter is used.
The resulting images from both films often express a great amount contrast. The infrared images often possess an "other-worldly" or "ghostly" quality. I hope to offer a view of the neighborhood that is just a bit askew from the one we normally see.
Below you can see a sample of the images from this series. All Photographs were taken Summer of 2000. Most prints are 16x20.
